MARK WENTZELL, AIA
Mark is 292’s design director and office greeter, two roles that are not dissimilar. Each is about people: listening to them, learning about what they need, and trying to help. As office greeter, Mark chats with those who stop in our front door, sometimes giving directions to a restaurant down the street, signing the delivery logbook, or answering questions about building permits for one of our neighboring businesses. As design director, Mark mentors 292 staff and sets the tone for design approach. Design is not just about aesthetics, it’s about helping people — helping them work or play or get healthy, etc. The crowds of people gathering at the Chaska Curling and Event Center, one of Mark’s recent projects, has been extremely rewarding.
Mark’s mentoring doesn’t stop with staff. He’s taught design studios at the University of Minnesota and is currently advising his daughter through her final year of architecture school. When he’s relaxing you’ll find him fly fishing for bass on the Mississippi River, or hanging out with his dog, Chico, eating Beer Nuts.
